ALGERINE (10) Schooner The French LE PIERRE CZAR taken in 1808. First renamed TIGRESS then, in 1810, ALGERINE.
Lost in 1813.

  • 1810 Lieut. John Aitken BLOW, 05/1810, Downs.
  • On 31 July 1811 ALGERINE and BREVDRAGEREN, Lieut. Thomas DEVON, were sighted by three Danish brigs. Outgunned, the British ships took flight. The following day they attempted to cut off one of the Danish vessels but, when she was joined by a second, BREVDRAGEREN was involved in a fight when ALGERINE pulled out of the action.
In spite of appeals for help BLOW refused to respond and DEVON had to extricate himself. ALGERINE lost one man killed.
In October 1811 BLOW was sentenced to be dismissed his ship for challenging a marine officer to a duel. It was thought at the time that this saved him from a more serious investigation.
  • 1812 Lieut. Daniel CARPENTER, 11/1811. She was lost in the West Indies on 20 May 1813.
