Sold in 1869.

  • 1856 Capt. Sidney GRENFELL, 07/1856, for service in China and South America.
  • On 19 July 1858 a cutter under Master Richard DYER, in chase of a junk in the Canton river, was attacked by a row-galley armed with gingals, rockets and stinkpots. Although outnumbered by 17 to 10, DYER put up a good fight for half an hour, killing 13 of his attackers without loss.
Master Richard DYER was in action again October 1859 when three of the frigate's boats cut out an American brig which had been seized at Mazatlan during a Mexican civil war.
