GLORY until 1774.
Broken up in 1786.

  • 1778 Capt Philemon POWNALL.
On 11 August Lord HOWE shifted his flag to her from EAGLE to better direct the action off Rhode Island with the French fleet under d'Estaing. During the night a violent gale blew up which dispersed the fleets and APOLLO was disabled by the loss of her fore and main topmasts and had her mainmast sprung, so the Admiral shifted to PHOENIX and then to CENTURION.

On 15 June 1780 APOLLO was in action with the French STANISLAUS (26) and forced her to take shelter under the batteries at Ostend. APOLLO lost 6 killed, including Capt. POWNALL, and 20 wounded.
He was succeeded by Capt. BAZELY who moved to AMPHION when APOLLO was put out of commission.
