    A letter from the consul in Corfu dated 20 June stated that La BELLE HELENE, a French vessel, bound from Ancona to Egypt, had been cut out of Otranto by 13 men in CHAMPION's barge under a very heavy fire of musketry and great guns. She was commanded by an ensign de vaisseau, had on board 100,000 cartridges, 306 muskets and other articles, together with an aid-de-camp, other officers and several physicians and artists, 32 in all. She was taken to Corfu.

    On 23 July 1805 CHAMPION distinguished herself in an action with the French flotilla in which she lost 2 men killed and 3 wounded. Her hull, sails and rigging were badly damaged.
