CONTEST (14) Gun-brig Built in 1812, Bridport.
Wrecked in 1828.

  • 1813 James RATTRAY, North America.
  • On 14 July 1813 the cutters of CONTEST and MOHAWK under Lieut. CURRY of CONTEST assisted by Lieut. HUTCHINSON of MOHAWK, pursued the United States schooner ASP three or four miles up a narrow inlet called Yeacomoco Creek in the Potomac River. ASP had one long 18-pounders gun, two 18-pounders carronades and some swivels. She had 25 men and was commanded by a Lieutenant who had hauled her close to the beach under the protection of a large body of militia.
  • Lieut. CURRY took the boats in under a heavy fire from the schooner and the shore, and boarded and carried her in a few minutes. Two men in the boats were killed and Lieut, CURRY was slightly wounded. The American Lieutenant was killed and several of his crew were drowned. Messrs. MOREY, BRADFORD and TOZER, midshipmen, took part in the attack.
  • 1815 Ditto, Portsmouth. Out of commission until 17 April 1827 when she was commissioned by Lieut. Edward PLAGGENBORG for the Halifax station. She was wrecked on 14 April 1828 and all on board were lost.
