    In January 1839 CRUIZER took part in the capture and occupation of Aden following an attack on the H. E.I. Co.'s COOTE.
    On the 18th., CRUIZER, towing a mortar boat, accompanied VOLAGE (28), to anchor off Sirah Is.
    opposite the town. At 10 AM she opened fire and destroyed the flank of the battery on the island before troops were landed in the town.

    On 5 July 1840 CRUIZER took part in the bombardment and capture of Chusan, an island near the mouth of the Yangtze.

    On 19 August 1845 the boats of CRUIZER joined those of the others of the squadron off Borneo in an attack on, and the destruction of, two pirate forts in the Bay of Malluda. The pirates numbered between 500 and 1,000 and their forts mounted 12 heavy guns. The landing had to be made in shallow water through mangroves against positions protected by a boom. CRUIZER's pinnace carried Lieut. RODNEY, midshipman Mr COTTER, 1 petty officer and 12 men. Her gig, Capt. FANSHAWE, 1 petty officer and 4 seamen and the cutter, midshipman Mr Tuke, 1 petty officer and 4 men. The action started at 8.50 in the morning and lasted just over an hour. On the British side six were killed by round shot accurately laid on the boom and fifteen were wounded, two of them mortally. Evidence was found many of ships which had been seized and looted by the pirates. A native girl with a baby cradled in a shattered arm was discovered hiding in a canoe. Her arm was amputated on VIXEN and five days later CRUIZER took her to Sarawak.
