    In August RANGER was employed in carrying volunteers from Deptford to Sheerness when the small amount of powder which remained in the magazine exploded with great violence setting the vessel on fire.
    RANGER was only saved by half filling her with water.
    The gunner was later found guilty of negligence, severely reprimanded and lost 4 months pay.
  • 1802 Charles COOTE, Channel. She arrived at Portsmouth from Deptford with newly raised seamen on 8 October 1802 and the following day a seaman jumped overboard with the intention of killing himself but was thwarted by a black man who immediately jumped in and saved him. She sailed back to Deptford on 3 November.
    A Portuguese East Indiaman was sent into Portsmouth by Capt. COOTE on 7 October.
  • On 17 July 1805 RANGER was captured and burnt by the Rochefort squadron.
