He arrived at the Admiralty on the afternoon of 12 October 1799 with dispatches from Vice-Ad. Sir Hugh SEYMOUR dated 31 August and announcing the capitulation of Surinam. - 1799 Lieut. THESIGER, 12/1799.

On Sunday 9 November 1800 REQUIN was damaged during a gale and, together with REDBRIDGE, had to go into harbour at Portsmouth on the following Wednesday for repairs. - REQUIN was wrecked on rocks in Quiberon Bay on 1 January 1801.
The whole crew were saved but 20 of them who got on shore were taken prisoner. The NILE went in under a flag of truce to make sure that they were safe. She brought the officers back to Plymouth and EXCELLENT carried the rest of the crew home.
