ANGLESEA (44) 4th rate Built in 1694, Plymouth DY.
Used as breakwater in 1742.

  • 1703 Capt. Henry PARTINGTON was promoted to post-captain in ANGLESEA on 20 October. On 12 November 1706 he was sentenced by a court martial in the River Thames to lose 6 month's pay for "irregular conduct".
  • 1709 One of the four ships which engaged Du Guai Trouin's squadron off the Lizard on 2 March (see ASSURANCE)
  • 1711 Capt. Thomas LEGG died at Barbados on 20 February 1711, commander of ANGLESEA 1729 Capt. William DOUGLASS, 31 Dec. 1729. In Nov. 1731 he removed to PHOENIX (20).
  • 1731 Capt. Lord Vere BEAUCLERK, in February he was captain of ANGLESEA and governor of a large tract of New England.
  • 1739 Capt. Henry REDDISH. Following the rupture with Spain he was ordered to Jamaica to place himself under the command of Vice Ad. VERNON. The admiral had already sailed with the expedition against Porto Bello by the time he arrived in Port Royal, but he found instructions to follow him. ANGLESEA arrived there on 29 November, some days after it had been reduced. He returned to England not long after, continuing in command until the end of 1741. He died in 1742.
