BUSY (10) Cutter Built in 1778, Folkestone.
Sold in 1792.

  • 1780 Lieut. COTES, North Sea.
On 18th. May with a small squadron commanded by Capt. William ALLEN in the CHATHAM (50), which was cruising prior to going to Elsinore to convoy the Baltic trade. BUSY was ordered to chase a sail which had been sighted and found herself in action with a heavily armed and manned cutter privateer, BUSY's sails and rigging were much shattered and four members of the crew severely wounded. The situation was saved by the arrival of the LIZARD frigate and the privateer was captured. She proved to be the JACKAL, which had been taken from the Royal Navy in the Downs by mutineers and sold to the French. A prize crew was put on board and she was sent to Elsinore but was recaptured by another French privateer.
