  • 1764 Lieut. DOWN. In December slipped his bower cable during a gale and his pilot ran him foul of a Brigantine when going into Dover Pier so his small bower anchor was broken. He had orders to go to Sheerness and requested that a new anchor be sent overland to Dover.
