  • 1702 Capt. Francis DOVE, one of the ships sent to Vigo with Sir Cloudesley SHOVEL. Capt. DOVE continued in the Mediterranean until 1704 when he took part in the attack on Gibraltar and the battle with the French off Malaga. In the latter engagement he was forced to quit the line, along with other commanders, because he fired all his shot. For this breach of duty he had to face a court martial but was completely acquitted of any wrong doing.
