  • 1761 Lieut. James ALLEN. She was captured by ACHILLE at Vigo on 4th. April 1761. On 29th. Junea court-martial was held on board ARROGANT at Spithead, Capt. Amherst presiding, concerning the loss of the SPEEDWELL. Capt. ALLEN and his officers were honourably acquitted, and the court were of the unanimous opinion that the taking of the cutter was an illegal capture, it being proved that she was taken in the harbour of Vigo.
