  • 1741 Capt. FORBES, 1742 Capt. Edward HERBERT, accompanied Mr VERNON in his unsuccessful expedition against Cuba. TIGER was wrecked on a key near Tortuga. The crew got safely ashore and fortified the position with twenty of the ship's guns. The Spaniards sent the FUERTE (60), to take them, but was lost. After two months the crew used their boats to capture a sloop which they used to take them to Jamaica. Capt. HERBERT was tried by a court martial assembled at Jamaica on 10th. July 1742, and mulcted for neglect of duty, of all the pay due to him, but was recommended for further employment, and a short time after was appointed to command the WOOLWICH.
