I am researching family history and was given some info re the above person. I think it is Admiral Jackson, captain?of nelsons flafships which flew the famous signal at trafalgar
He served in the battleof the Nile? and for his service nelson gave him a seat, bearing an engraving of an egyptian figure it has been handed down and the letter suggest that it is either at tha British museum or the scool of heraldry
Other infoBattle of the Nile also called battle of Aboukir bay
Info is photocopied so writing dificult to decipher
If any one can enlighten me please |

There were no Captains named Jackson at either Trafalgar or the Nile. There were also no officer named Jackson who claimed the Naval General Service medal 1793-1840 for either of these two battles, he may of course have died before 1848, but we need more info. Perhaps if you can come up with a first name or more details we can get further.
Cheers, -Peter |

The only Admiral Jackson who has some fame, is Admiral (rtd) George Vernon Jackson (1787 - 1876) because he wrote an autobiography. He is said to have been the model of O'Brien in Marryat's novel Peter Simple. He entered the RN in 1801, was the son of a purser and had 4 brothers in the service.
The two other Admirals Jackson were Vice-Admiral Robert Jackson (1765 - 1852) - probably born in Jamaica, and Rear-Admiral Samuel Jackson (1775 - 1845).
As Peter said none had the NGSM so they certainly where not at the Nile or Trafalgar.
There are some other Captains Jackson including Captain (rtd) Caleb Jackson (1791 - 1875), a brother of George Vernon, and a Captain George Jackson (1776 - 1819) who could have been at the Nile as he got the "Egyptian" medal.
As Peter says, you must come with more details.

It definetly was Lt John Pasco (1774 - 1853 later Rear-Admiral) who was the signal lieutenant at Trafalgar and arranged the signal with Nelson.
