Roy and Lesley Adkins have just announced the publication of their new book, Jack Tar on 2 October on their website: http://www.adkinshistory.com/
If you enjoyed like me their Trafalgar and War for All the Oceans, it will be your major reading for the Fall and HN anniversary.
No book has been devoted on the ordinary seaman since Christopher Lloyd's and Peter Kemp's books in 1970!

The first article on Jack Tar by Roy and Lesley Adkins (to be published this autumn for the 250th anniversary of Nelson's birth) just appeared in the BBC History Magazine.

Patrick,
That's very kind of you to mention both our book and the article. The official publication date of 'Jack Tar' will be 2 October - just missing the 250th anniversary (the publisher decided on the publication date)! We are launching the book at about the furthest place inland - Warwick - a bit before, on Saturday 20 September, when we are giving an illustrated talk at Warwick Library, as part of a new history festival being organised by Warwick Books (24 Market Place, Warwick, tel. 01926 499939) in association with the library. Tickets cost only £2, and the first copies of the book will be on sale at this event. We will be very happy to see any of you who live in those parts and can make it to the talk. There will be lots of time afterwards for questions and discussion!

Please note that the Warwick talk has now changed from the library to the Northgate Methodist Hall - they are both in Barrack Street. It's at 7pm.
We're also giving a talk at Exeter central library on 8th October at 6.30pm - see our website (adkinshistory.com, latest news section) on how to get a free invitation. This is Warwick, UK, and Exeter, UK - we'd hate people to turn up to the wrong place...
We've also just had an article published on tracing naval ancestors in the BBC Who Do You Think You Are? magazine for September 2008 (which accompanies the TV series of the same name) |
