David Tyrie a Scot was accused and stood trial at Winchester, Hampshire, England for spying for France, he was executed in August 1782. I have the newspaper reports of his trial.
His execution was one of the last big public (drawn and quartered)with an audience of some 100,000 people at Portsmouth. After hanging he was drawn and quartered, his heart was cut out, and his privates cut off. After burial in the sand his body was dug up by sailors and cut up further as souvenirs.
I am looking for more info on David Tyrie. He was associated with Francois Henri de la Motte. A French citizen, who had been executed at London the previous year. |
