I thought readers might like to know that Joseph Samain, to whom I referred in my recent posting, was the author of a letter which is now in the archives of the National Maritime Museum. He wrote on 18th October 1797 from the Nore to his parents in the East End of London and gave them an account of the Battle of Camperdown.
I have yet to get sight of the letter as it is in transit and not currently available, but I do wonder how such a document found its way along the Thames to Greenwich....
