In 1779 La Fayette managed to convince King Louis XVI and his general staff to offer military and financial assistance to the troops of General Washington.
On March 21, 1780, the young major general La Fayette boarded the Hermione. He went to fight alongside the American insurgents.
Since 1997, people are constructing a replica of the Hermione in Rochefort, as authentically as possible.
The goal of the project is a remake of La Fayette's voyage in 2012.
