The Naval Chronicle is a real goldmine for the period and one of the most important sources.
It includes action reports, intelligence of foreign naval matters, biographies of officers, anecdotes, etc.
It was published from 1799 to 1819 in quaterly installments.
Nicholas Tracy has edited a new edition (Stackpole Books, 1999, ISBN: 978-0811711104) but he had to heavily cut the content: it's impossible today to publish more than 10,000 pages at an affordable price.
For me the edited trivia (like the weather reports, obits, etc.) are the most interesting part because they give a feeling of the athmosphere of the period.
About 30 of the original vols of the total 40 vols are available for dowload at http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=naval%20chronicle. |

Two volumes that are not available on www.archive.org can be found on google books: volume II and III.
Does anyone know if digital copies of volumes 1, 9, 17, 22, 23, 28, 29, 39 and 40 are available (for downloading)?

Hello,
I have found that the above archive has now got all but 2, 28,29,39 and 40 available for copy. Number 2 is available in Google.
If you go into the site and search more, you will find more old books that are available, ie, biographys, some Naval Record Society books, Index books on Naval officers.
It is a mine of information.
Hope this helps you Danni,
Best wishes
