To enhance a stunning model we have at the Maritime Museum of BC, Canada, I am preparing a 3-D museum exhibit to illustrate the number of people on board HMS Ajax (1798), lining up rows of model people to show the number of officers, midshipmen, marines, cooks/bakers, tradesmen, etc.. Looking for suggestions of 1) what groups to represent as large divisions of labour/authority, 2) what numbers would be appropriate for each, 3) information on the appropriate unifirm colours (top/trousers) for painting the figures. All comments appreciated.

To find the numbers for 1798, you'll have to check the muster books at TNA.
Here is the crew as it was at Trafalgar :

Midshipman : 14

Warrant officers and mates

There was no chaplain nor schoolmaster on board (they were a scarce species).
There was no Captain too as he was in England at the CM of Calder and the 1st Lt was acting captain.
Except for officers, warrant officers, and marines, there was no uniform.
