ACTAEON (28) 6th rate Built in 1775, Woolwich Dockyard.
Burnt in 1776.

  • 1776 Capt. Christopher ATKINS. Sailed from Cork on 17 February.
    ACTAEON took part in the attack on Fort Moultrie, named after its commander, at the southern end of Sullivan's Island, Charleston, SC.
    On 28 June 1776. She was one of three vessels assigned to enfilade the front of the fort but they all grounded before taking up position.
    ACTAEON could not be got off so she was set on fire and abandoned.
    The Americans boarded her before she blew up and secured a few trophies.
