  • She was first commissioned by Capt. Henry D. CHADS on 20 August 1841 for service on the East Indies station.
  • 1846 Plymouth.
  • 1847 Commodore James H. PLUMRIDGE, 08/1847, East Indies.
  • 1852 Devonport.
  • She was not re-commissioned until November 1857 when Capt. James M'CLEVERTY joined her for service on the East Indies and China station.
    The SURPRISE and two of CAMBRIAN's boats were awarded 1,000 pounds bounty for services against pirates on 23 August 1858.
