HAUGHTY Gunboat No. 31 Built in 1797, Gravesend.
Sold in 1802.

  • 1799 Lieut. MENDS, Portsmouth.
On 27 September Capt. BOLTON in WOLVERINE with HAUGHTY and PIERCER joined ESPIEGLE about 6 miles off Lemmer.
When the Dutch authorities temporised over Capt. BOLTON's call to surrender the squadron pushed through the oozy mud flat until the gunbrigs were aground within a pistol shot of the shore and replied to the fire which opened up from the enemy guns.
After an hour the soldiers deserted the town and PIERCER's boat's crew planted the British standard on the pier.
Capt. BOLTON sent Lieut. SIMPSON of ISIS to get HAUGHTY off.
