  • 1828 David HOPE, 07/1828, was appointed to METEOR after he salvaged TERROR which had been thrown ashore in Portugal earlier in the year.
    On 13 September she sailed from Plymouth with ORESTES and BRITOMART to demand the return of two British merchantmen captured by Barbary pirates.
    It was necessary to institute a blockade of Tangier before they were released.
    In January 1829 METEOR joined Sir Pulteney MALCOLM's Mediterranean squadron.
    HOPE was promoted to captain on 4 February 1830 and returned home in ASIA after handing over to Richard COPELAND.
    METEOR was then used as a survey vessel in the Mediterranean.
    Her name was changed to BEACON in 1832, a METEOR steam vessel had been in service since 1824.
