NYADEN (36) Taken at the siege of Copenhagen 7 September 1807.
Hulk in 1847.

  • 1809 Capt. Frederick COTTERELL, Feb.
  • 1809.
  • 1811 Ditto, Martinique.
Capt. COTTERELL died at sea of a consumption, aged 31, in June 1811.
and was succeeded by Capt. Farmery EPWORTH.
On 14 March 1812, being on passage from Lisbon to England with dispatches and the Post Office mail, he fell in with five French line-of-battle ships which had escaped out of L'Orient a few days before.
The squadron chased them for a whole day, at one time exchanging shot, until three large ships were sighted standing directly for the French which, in conjunction with signals made by Capt. EPWORTH's scared them off, otherwise NYADEN would inevitably have been captured.
The ships turned out to be the NORTHAMPTON, MONARCH and EUPHRATES, all homeward bound Indiamen.
Capt. EPWORTH removed to NYMPHE shortly after.
