  • 1799 Capt. S. SUTTON, 04/1799, (Rear Ad. Sir C. V. COTTON) Channel.
    On 7 April 1800 Corporal of marines William HOWELL of PRINCE was tried by court martial for quitting his station at the dockyard on the 9th. and taking private Barnard WARD, a sentinel at the dock gates, with him.
    He was sentenced to receive 100 lashes.
    At another court martial on 28 April a marine was sentenced to receive 200 lashes around the fleet for striking Sergeant Burt of the marines.
