DANAE (38) 5th rate The French LA DANAE captured by SOUTHAMPTON and MELAMPE on 28 March 1759.
Break up completed in June 1771.

  • 1762 Capt. HAY, on her passage home from Gibraltar on 30th. January with a convoy, fell in with and engaged a large French ship for three hours, when the DANAE, being much disabled in her masts and rigging, the enemy made sail and got off. The DANAE had 18 men killed and 42 wounded. The same ship soon after fell in with the DEAL CASTLE who compelled her to sheer off; she was finally captured by the KING GEORGE privateer and proved to be the 26 gun frigate SIGNE, M. Fabry, fitted out by the merchants and bound from St. Domingo to Bordeaux with a cargo valued at 150,000 L. The KING GEORGE had 3 men killed and 12 wounded.
