  • 1709 Capt. John PAUL, promoted out of the MARY galley, HASTINGS was a cruiser on the Irish station where she took many valuable prizes, she was also employed on convoy duty.

  • "On the 9th. inst. we took a ship called the Marquis, from St. Domingo, bound to St. Malo, burthen one hundred and fifty tons, fourteen guns and having on board two hundred hogsheads of sugar, three thousand hides, eight casks of indigo and twelve thousand dollars."
