Does anyone here know the number and type of boats carried by the
H.M.S. Amethyst?
Of all the classes of 36 gun frigates to serve in the British Royal Navy, which was the largest when it came to size or weight?
Thanks!

James!
Amethyst would have carried 5 boats – a 26 foot launch for harbour work, a 30 foot pinnace, and three cutters from 18 to 24 foot long
Of the dozen or so different classes of frigate on the Navy List, three were classified as being of ’36-guns’, one – the smallest - carrying 12 pounder guns on the main deck, the others - the most common - 18 pounder guns. Amethyst fell into the last category and, classified as a ‘large’ 36 gun frigate, had a displacement of 1046 tons. She was built at the end of a decade when vessels of this class were getting larger (and in the view of people like Lord St Vincent, more ungainly) and I think it unlikely that any were much bigger. After her launch in 1799, the size of this class was actually diminished with the Perseverence class (1800-5) weighing in 870 tons, the Euryalus class (1804-12) at 953 tons, and the Scamander class (1812-14) at 940 tons. The maindeck measurement of all was around 144 foot.
There were of course 38-gun (and later 44-gun) frigates that were much larger.
